General Announcement: Students, please utilize your ScenicView email address as a form of communication between you and staff members, as it is one of the fastest ways to get information to you. If you have problems accessing your account, please follow-up with your service coordinator for help.
Guidelines: Please take a moment and review the guidelines below for use of the Student Activity Room, Checking out recreation equipment, and use of the Boredom Book.
Sign-up sheets have moved! They are now located on the large bulletin board by the main floor bathrooms of the community building. A few things to keep in mind:
When signing up for an activity, please remove the clipboard from the bulletin board and flip through the pages until you find the activity you are looking for.
We do not want any of the sign-up sheets to go missing or get placed out of order, so please do not remove individual sign-up sheets from the clipboards they are on.
If you have questions about an activity while you are signing up or looking through the sign-up sheets, then please come speak with a Rec Therapist or one of the Rec Therapy Interns.
Keep in mind that what you see is NOT what you get. Just because a sign-up sheet is not on the front of the clipboard does not mean that it is not on that clipboard. Please flip through each of the pages before giving up and thinking an activity does not exist.
How to check out items. You need to meet with a Rec. Therapist when you check something out. You can check out sports equipment, games, and other items.
How to access the Student Activity Room. There are laminated sheets in the SAR with the rules on them. We just ask that you be respectful of each other. In the evenings, you need to sign up in the HSW office in order to access the room.
Animation/Drawing Group: If you are interested in animation, and/or drawing, we have a volunteer, John, who would like to work with him, please let your Service Coordinator know and sign up for it with Quinci.
Shelly Johnson - Josar Region Club: “The Josar Region is a Literate Pokemon Role-Play. The story/adventure is created through "collaborative storytelling". It is a story and a game at the same time. The Club will be when the Players (or "Alpha-Testers", as The Josar Region is unfinished at this time) can meet with the Game Master (or GM) and work on their stories/adventures, or brainstorms what they would like to happen next or what should happen next. The Players can travel alone or in groups, as agreed upon by the other Players and GM…” For more information on how to participate, please speak with Shelly directly and see the flyer posted on the sign-up sheet bulletin board.
Chris Brinkley: “Man Night” October 22nd, 12:00 PM: If you are interested in attending a “Man Night” being hosted by Chris and the elder’s quorum on Saturday, October 22nd at 12:00 PM, please sign-up and please speak with Chris Brinkley if you have questions.
ScenicView Academy Student Group on Facebook. We encourage you to join that group to get more information on community events.
Signing up for Activities. For many activities, we have sign-up sheets. They are located at the front desk in a binder. We have deadlines for signing up for certain activities because we need to plan transportation, supplies, and tickets. It is important that you follow the sign-up sheet's guidelines. Each sign-up sheet will give you a date, time, place, and a description of the activity and when the deadline is. Please read the sign-up sheet in its entirety. If you forget any of that information, check the sign-up sheet first. If you have further questions, visit with a Rec. Therapist. We encourage you to write down any activities you are attending in your planner, so you won't forget. For activities with a deadline, we ask that you change your mind before the deadline. If you drop out of an activity at the last minute, you will be responsible for the cost of that activity, unless you are able to find a replacement. If you have an emergency, please visit with a Rec. Therapist. We do not want to punish you for coming to activities, but we do encourage you to be responsible and follow through with commitments.
Fun Time every Wednesday from 11:00-12:00. This week we will be doing a Halloween Craft.
Midterm Week: October 17th-October 21st, “Gotcha” Game: We will be playing a game called, “Gotcha” during midterm week. Each student and staff will be assigned another staff or student that they have to “get”. In order to “get” someone, you will have 1 piece of crumpled paper you have to throw at your person and hit them. You are only allowed to have 1 piece of paper to use for the whole week. When you “get” someone, they will give you the name of the person that they were supposed to “get” and you will try and “get” that person. The game ends when there is only one person left. Check your email for more details!

*Commit yourself for the days and work hours you have been assigned! If you become ill prior to your shift, notify your supervisor as soon as possible, prior to your shift start time.
*Plan any time off with anticipation and notify supervisors and your Employment Case Manager.
*Note to Trainees: If you are contemplating starting an internship for the Fall 2016 semester, you will need to start planning with your team and Employment Case Manager now!
Time Off Guidelines Illness: Students who are unable to work due to illness need to contact their supervisor and Employment Case Manager. When students miss more than three consecutive days due to illness, they are required to provide a doctor's note before returning to work.
Health/Physical Limitations: Students who have health/physical limitations and request light duty work will be required to provide a doctor's note outlining their restrictions.
Planned Time Off: Students are asked to plan ahead when requesting time off. They are expected to complete a request for time off form, including finding someone to cover their shift, and getting required signatures from their work supervisor and employment team representative.
Expectations: Students are expected to follow their work schedule. If they are going to be late, they should notify their supervisor (and explain why). If there is a reason they are not able to work, they need to contact their supervisor before the shift begins.
SVA Student Request for Time Off form and Requesting time off Checklist: 1. To be excused, please complete the process 24 hours in advance. 2. Get "Request Time Off" forms at the front desk. 3. *The most important person to you during your work schedule time and just before you go to work is your Supervisor. If you are sick and cannot make it to work, please communicate with your Supervisor right away or call the front desk for help.
